Busy Christmas period drives Stansted to record 2016

London Stansted Airport completed a record breaking 2016 with its busiest ever December as the great Christmas getaway and record high aircraft load factors boosted passenger numbers during the month. A total of over 1.85 million passengers passed through Stansted during the period, up by 146,000 or 8.5 per cent on last year, and surpassing the previous record for December of 1.76 million passengers set in 2006.

Iran Air takes delivery of first Airbus aircraft following historic deal

Iran Air has taken delivery of its first new aircraft, an A321, in a handover ceremony in Toulouse with Farhad Parvaresh, Iran Air chairman, and Airbus Commercial Aircraft president Fabrice Bregier. The delivery is the first from a firm order placed by Iran Air in December 2016 for 100 Airbus aircraft (46 single aisle and 54 wide-body jets) to renew and expand its fleet.

Gan Airport begins boosting tourism in southern Maldives

The opening of international flights to Gan airport, adjacent to Addu township in the south of the Maldives, has opened a new era for the region – providing an alternative transportation offering that can save travellers valuable vacation time. In December, SriLankan Airlines started flying from Colombo to the upgraded Gan airport, formerly a UK Royal Air Force refilling base until 1976 when it became a domestic airport.
